The very first time in Chittagong “Job Fair for Persons’ with Disabilities” organized by BBDN
The ‘Chittagong Job Fair for Persons’ with Disabilities 2018’ was organized by Bangladesh Business and Disability Network in partnership with BRAC and in collaboration with the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 7th April at world Trade Center, Agrabad , Chittagong.
Md. Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner, Chittagong Metropolitan Police was the chief guest at the Programme. Mr. Kamran T. Rahman, President, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation was present as the guest of honor. Ligaya Laoeng Dumaoang, TVET and Skills Development Specialist, ILO, and Mr. Salahuddin Kasem Khan, Co-Chair of Executive Committee, National Skills Development Council was present as special guests while Mr. Mahbubul; Alam, President, The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce& Industry presided over the Programme.
Md. Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner, Chittagong Metropolitan Police said ‘To acquire sustainable development goals, the country cannot ignore the number differently abled persons’. He urged to overcome the certain challenges on disabilities and try to explore latent talent through skills development training and technical education. He appreciated these types of special job fair and urge different stakeholder especially to the business community to come forward for organizing job fair for Persons’ with Disabilities at remote sites. He emphasize the significance of inclusion of Persons’ with disabilities in decent workforce for improving the GDP growth of Nation.
A total of 180 persons with disabilities and 19 employers participated in the job fair. The programme started at 10:00 a.m. and continued till 5:00 p.m. in two phases. In the first phase, a seminar discussing the importance of empowering the persons’ with disabilities was held, while in the second phase, a spot interview opportunity was held where different employers’ and companies set up stalls and interviewed the job seekers for different posts. During the day of job fair, 40 persons with disabilities got on spot job through interview by 19 potential employer organizations which is remarkable in the history of Chittagong
