Success Story of Taslima Begum

Taslima Begum, a visually impaired woman, faced vision issues at the age of 9 due to an accident and lost most of her sight by 11 due to improper treatment. Despite her visual impairment, she completed her Masters in National Science from Jagannath University in 2012. She started working at a private company and got married in 2013. However, after the birth of her son in 2014, her husband began to abuse her physically and mentally, pressuring her to quit her job. Even after quitting her job, she couldn’t escape her husband’s abuse. In 2022, her husband divorced her and took their son away.

During these challenging times, Taslima participated in BBDN’s 2022 job fair and submitted her CV. When she was on the verge of giving up and contemplating suicide, BBDN contacted her for a job interview at Berger Paints Bangladesh. Despite being initially considered unfit for the job due to her low vision, Taslima requested a few days of work to prove her competence. Berger Paints appreciated her proposal and gave her the opportunity. Taslima proved herself through her work and has been successfully working at Berger for two years. Shortly after getting the job, she brought her son back and is now leading a fulfilling life with him. Taslima believes that if individuals with disabilities are given job opportunities, they can prove themselves and set an example in society.
