BBDN and BEF organized “Sensitizing Human Resource Professionals to Promote the Employment of Persons with Disabilities” Seminar on 25 February 2018 at Dhaka

The Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN) and Bangladesh Employers’ Federation organized a seminar on “Sensitizing Human Resources Professionals to Promote the Employment of Persons with Disabilities” on 25 February 2018 in Conference Hall at Chamber Building, Motijheel, Dhaka.

Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General, BEF Chaired the seminar and shared practical experiences through working along person with disabilities. He urged to the participants especially decision making authority to create employment opportunities through following systematic steps towards disability inclusion.

Mr. Albert Mollah, Disability Consultant, ILO, presented power point presentation on disability inclusion at the work place where he emphasized the Commitment of CEO from the employer, HR orientation and training, partnership with DPO’s , developing inclusive plan, establishing employer resource group, monitoring and follow up process. Md. Imranur Rahman, Project Coordinator, BBDN Presented on BBDN’s vision, activities performed, future plan and upcoming activities to be performed in the year 2018.

Md. Shahnewaz khan, AGM-HR, Admin, Urmi Group shared their positive experiences about the successful employees recruited from BBDN Dhaka Job Fair and Ratan Sutradhar who is a person with disabilities, employee of Urmi Group, stated about the relationship and working experiences which was the great showcasing for other employers’ and HR Professionals.

Mr. Mostafiz from Shin Shin Group shared their inclusive activities by focusing accessible workplaces for employees with disabilities. Shin Shin Group constructed two storied project office only for reasonable accommodation and accessibility for the PWD’s. Mr. Anowarul Haque from Akhtar Group shared their training activities for skill development in Akhtar Furniture Academy.

Among the Human Resources professionals representatives from Square Group, Grameen-Phone, Standard Bank, DBL Group, Gazi Group, Mondol Group. Dutch Bangla Pack Ltd, AB Bank, Pubali Bank, BRAC, PFDA and other employers’, NGO’s, DPO’s were present in seminar.

The participants emphasized on awareness program, local level research and study, psychological changes, partnership development, technical skill development, integrated networking to build inclusive and sustainable workforce in Bangladesh. BBDN believes that Human Resources professionals can play dynamic roles in building a diverse and inclusive workplace in Bangladesh.
