The Bangladesh Business and Disability Network (BBDN) successfully hosted a groundbreaking National Job Fair for Persons with Disabilities, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the workforce at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB Centre) in Dhaka on 19th February, 2024.
This significant event funded by The United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Multi-Partner Trust Fund (UNPRPD MPTF) and led by the International Labour Organization under the UNPRPD project. Under the theme “Leave No One Behind the UN Habitat also partnered with BBDN for this initiative.
The event saw an overwhelming response, with over 30 distinguished employers from both local and multinational sectors, including RMG, IT, paint industries, NGOs, and inclusive organizations, coming forward to connect with the talent pool of participants.
1026 candidates registered for the job fair, with a male-female proportion of 81.9:17.9. Additional registrations were made during the event. Among the registered candidates, around 250 attended the fair physically.
The closing event was graced by Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Social Welfare, as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees included Mr. Pedro Peter Bellen, Chief Technical Advisor, ProGRESS Project, International Labour Organization; Mr. Syed Saad Hussain Gilani, Chief Technical Advisor, Employment Injury Insurance (EII) Project, International Labour Organization; Mr. Salahuddin Kasem Khan, Chairman Advisory Council, BBDN; and Mr. Murteza Rafi Khan, CEO, BBDN.
40 candidates were selected through a pre-matching procedure, and 6 were selected during the fair. A total of 55 candidates with disabilities received their appointment letters during the fair.
All the employer’s representatives received certificate of participation from the honorable chief guest.
