The Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF) and Bangladesh Business and Disability Organization (BBDN) jointly organized a seminar on “Promotion of Disability Inclusion at the Workplace” on 29 January 2018 in Agra Community Center at Sylhet.
In the seminar Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, Chairman, Chittagong Stock Exchange & Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN was present as chief guest. Mr. Khandker Shiper Ahmed, president of the SCCI presided the seminar. Mr. Murteza R. Khan, Co-Chair of BBDN, Mr. Albert Mollah, ED of Access Bangladesh Foundation and Mr. Kishore Kumar Singh, Chief Technical Advisor of ILO presented power point presentation and delivered speeches on disability inclusion at the work place. Mr. Emdad Hossain, Vice President of SCCI, Md. Salahuddin Yousuf, Member of Joint Committee on Skills Development and Disability Inclusion were present in the seminar.
In his speech Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen mentioned that Disability is not a disease, just a status. Like Stephen Hawkings, Person with Disabilities are the boon for the world. They just need the chance to show their abilities. They are supposed to be skilled in different way, we just need to realize their capabilities. Honorable Prime Minister and her daughter is sincerely concerned about the especially able persons. Government is functioning genuinely for the mainstreaming of the person with disabilities in a holistic approach. The participants of the open discussions are Abul Kashem, Assistant Professor, SUST, Md. Saidur Rahman, Principal of Sylhet Technical School and College, Mr. Mahbub Sobhani, Chairman of Jalalabad Disable Hospital, Ms. Farzana Ishrat, Vice Principal of Sylhet Inclusive School and College and others.
Mr. Khandker Shiper Ahmed, president of the SCCI acknowledged to open job placement desk in chamber office as soon as possible. He also stated that SCCI will organize Job fair for Person with Disabilities in partnership with Bangladesh Business and Disability Network in the current year. Mr. Emdad Hossain, Vice President of SCCI conclude the seminar by giving vote of thanks to all the honorable guests and participants.
