On 20 May 2025, the Bangladesh Business & Disability Network (BBDN) organized the Workshop on Citizen Rights Advocacy with Multi-Stakeholders with the support of International Labour Organization (ILO) and Global Affairs Canada under the Promoting Gender-Responsive Enterprise Development and TVET Systems (PROGRESS) project. The event was held at Hotel Grand Noor in Dinajpur and was organized in collaboration with Uttaran Protibondhi Sangstha and Access Bangladesh Foundation (ABF).
This advocacy initiative focused on promoting inclusive skills development and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, aligned with the objectives of the Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act 2013. The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders including representatives from government departments, private sector entities, TVET institutions, civil society organizations, and organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).
The event began with a welcome speech by Md. Ashraful Alam, General Secretary of Uttaran Protibondhi Sangstha. The session was moderated by Md. Sohel Rana, Head of Program at Access Bangladesh Foundation, while a project overview presentation was delivered by Md. Tareq Mahmud, Deputy Program Manager of BBDN.
Key speakers included representatives from the Department of Social Services, the Department of Youth Development, the District Women’s Affairs Office, the Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and disability rights organizations. They emphasized the importance of inclusive workforce development, affirming that persons with disabilities have the capability to contribute meaningfully to economic growth if given equitable opportunities.
The discussions highlighted national employment policies, skill development frameworks, and current gaps in ensuring accessibility and decent work. Participants collaboratively identified priority areas for advocacy, including increased awareness, institutional collaboration, and accessible TVET systems.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants, partners, and supporters for contributing to this impactful event. Together, we continue working toward a more inclusive and equitable labour market-where no one is left behind.
